In this week’s post, I want to share something very special with you, a deep and inspiring conversation with my mentor from The Yoga Therapy Institute, Monserrat G Mukherjee. This interview touches on themes that are close to my heart and integral to the way I teach: trauma-informed practice, the therapeutic potential of yoga, and how yoga teachers can continue their own education if they feel called to this path.

Why This Conversation Matters?

So many yoga teachers and practitioners reach a point where they start asking:

How can I support my students beyond asana?
How can I integrate emotional well-being, trauma awareness, and holistic healing into my teaching in a safe and grounded way?

This is where yoga therapy comes in. It bridges the gap between yoga as a physical practice and yoga as a deeply therapeutic tool. For me, learning about yoga therapy has been nothing short of transformational, both in my personal journey and in how I serve my students.

In fact, I am currently in the process of completing my 875HR Yoga Therapist training with The Yoga Therapy Institute, and this ongoing education continues to shape the depth and integrity of the work I share. This training is giving me a broader framework to understand trauma, mental health, physical health challenges, and how yoga can be safely adapted for each unique person.

In this conversation, we explore:

  • My mentor’s personal journey into yoga therapy
  • What yoga therapy is and why it matters for teachers and practitioners
  • How trauma-informed approaches integrate into yoga therapy
  • The educational work of The Yoga Therapy Institute
  • What steps you can take if you feel called to this work

It’s a dialogue filled with wisdom, clarity, and practical insights whether you are a teacher looking to deepen your scope or a practitioner curious about how yoga can be used as a tool for healing.

Why This Resonates with My Work

My own mission has always been to bring trauma-informed principles into my yoga teaching practice.

But as I dive deeper into my own yoga therapy studies, I see even more clearly how important it is for teachers to expand their awareness around trauma, nervous system regulation, and individualized approaches. This is where yoga truly becomes a tool for resilience, empowerment, and transformation.
